words from Nan about this print: 'As a child I used to go on holiday to the Veluwe in the Netherlands and was always fascinated by the ferns, or 'varens' as they are called in Dutch. When I moved to Scotland I found the highlands covered in 'bracken' and started to draw it. The black and silver bracken on the prints are samples of these drawings. Then I visited New Zealand and discovered that here the ferns were even part of the national symbol. I then decided to make a 'fern' print connection the three countries that are close to my heart. In Wellington I bought a little book about ferns and the different shapes and pods on the print I found in there. Why the pink? No reason. I just loved the contrast with the black.'
